The same spool of PLA is a completely different purchase depending on who is buying it. Each page below is built around one buyer's actual failure modes — what goes wrong, what it costs, and what has to be specified to prevent it.
Each page covers the buyer's economics, the specific failure modes that cost them money, an indicative configuration, and an explicit statement of when the package is the wrong fit.
You run machines around the clock and sell printed parts. Filament is your largest recurring input and a bad batch stops the floor.
You print functional or end-use parts inside a manufacturing operation, and the material choice has to survive an internal review.
Schools, universities and maker spaces. Safety documentation and procurement compliance matter more than price per kilogram.
You resell into a local market and carry the inventory risk. Range breadth, restock speed and margin structure decide it.
You are building a filament brand rather than reselling someone else's. Colour, spool and packaging are your product.
Photopolymer, not filament. Wavelength compatibility, burnout behaviour and biocompatibility documentation drive the decision.
Interior trim, brackets, ducting, jigs. Heat and UV exposure rule out the obvious cheap materials.
You sell printed models. Surface finish, colour consistency across restocks and cost per unit are the whole business.
| Buyer | Primary material | Decides on | Volume shape | Price sensitivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Print farm | PLA / PETG | Failure rate, batch consistency | High, steady, few SKUs | High |
| Industrial | PA, PC, CF/GF reinforced | Mechanical data, traceability | Moderate, specific grades | Low |
| Education | PLA, some PETG | Safety data, tender compliance | Bursty, calendar-driven | Moderate |
| Distributor | Broad range | Margin, restock speed, breadth | Moderate, many SKUs | High |
| Private label | PLA, PETG, specialty finishes | Colour, spool, packaging | Committed volume per SKU | Moderate |
| Dental / jewellery | Photopolymer resin | Wavelength, burnout, biocompatibility | Low volume, high value | Low |
| Automotive | ASA, PA-CF, PC | Heat and UV resistance | Low to moderate | Moderate |
| Miniatures | Silk / matte PLA, resin | Surface finish, colour repeatability | Moderate, colour-wide | High |
No. Each package is a template for structuring a request. Price depends on grade, volume, spool format, packaging, documentation and destination market. Treat the configurations shown as checklists, not catalogue offers.
It is set per SKU, not per company. In the July 2026 supplier survey behind this site, minimums at a single supplier ranged from one roll to a hundred rolls depending on the item — entry SKUs are set low to win trials, flagship and custom SKUs carry higher minimums. Ask per SKU.
Yes — that is the core of the service. Different items come from different factories; consolidating them into one shipment, one packing list and one invoice is what a sourcing desk does.
No. There is no checkout and no single-spool retail here. Our reference material is open to everyone, but if you need one roll delivered quickly, a local distributor or marketplace will serve you better.
It depends entirely on the producing factory and the SKU. In the supplier survey, 13 of 28 filament and parts storefronts showed no certification records at all. State your destination market and required documents at the request stage — it narrows the viable factory list considerably, and it is much cheaper to discover that before samples than after a container ships.
